Grace Hopper Research

Grace Hopper, born on December 9, 1906, played a huge role in Computer Science History. She lived in New York, New York and attended Vassar College. After graduation, she got a PH.D in mathematics from Yale. Later on, she became a teacher at Vassar College and joined the Navy WAVES (Womens Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Services) in 1943. She was assigned to the project Bureau of Ordnance's Computation Project which is where she worked on Mark I, the first large-scale automatic calculator. In addition, she wrote the first computer manual which helped users operate Mark I. At the age of 79, she was the oldest officer on the naval duty.
